When I was very young, my grandmother taught me how to cross stitch and gave me a sampler to work when I visited her house.  Sadly, I never managed to finish that sampler, but I learned to love the feel of needle and thread passing through fabric.  I have been playing with these things ever since.

Connection

Connection

We wander, we stumble, we bump into each other, all in an effort to connect and belong.

2020 was a year of stasis…but the garden reminded me that dormancy is time of dreaming.

We carry things.  And sometimes they are just too heavy.

life rearranging itself

life rearranging itself

This is my most personal work.  It’s about how life changes after the diagnosis of a life threatening illness.  As a friend so aptly put it, “Life rearranges itself in seconds.”

These quilts are about the effort it takes to reclaim the scattered pieces, the fear of confronting our own mortality, and the clarity that comes from living in the present.

An exploration of effervescence.  Because sometimes I need a little fizz.

maps and charts

maps and charts

I am obsessed with maps.  And charts.  And diagrams. In an effort to better understand this world, I organize my perceptions.  A favorite author of mine, Annie Dillard, put it this way:

“I pushed at my map's edges. Alone at night I added newly memorized streets and blocks to old streets and blocks, and imagined connecting them on foot. From my parents' earliest injunctions I felt that my life depended on keeping it all straight - remembering where on earth I lived.”

These maps and charts are my attempt to remember.  And my way of sharing that memory with you.
